The matchup of these two all-time greats was already way overripe back in 2015, when the two mostly avoided each other for 12 of the most disappointing rounds in boxing history.
Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs) earned a unanimous-decision win over Pacquiao when they first met in May 2015. He earned a guaranteed purse of $100m for the fight but was reported to have brought home at least twice that amount.
Mayweather is now 41, and greatly diminished. Pacquiao is 39 and completely washed up. He landed just 81 total punches in their first fight, later blaming his complete no-show on an injured shoulder.
Floyd Mayweather Jr says a rematch with Manny Pacquiao will take place this year.
Floyd Mayweather said on Instagram Saturday that he will come back from retirement this year for a rematch of the insanely boring 2015 “mega-fight” with Manny Pacquiao.
Mayweather is aiming for December for this rematch, which only the most addled Mayweather sycophant or Pacquiao stan could possibly want. Boxing can and must do better than this shit.
The 41-year-old Mayweather has two wins since facing Pacquiao: against Andre Berto in 2015 and his August 2017 knockout of Conor McGregor in the UFC star’s boxing debut. Mayweather said after the McGregor bout that “this was my last fight.”
